USB storage devices are small, lightweight, handy, low cost, rewriteable and removable; they are actually data storage device integrated with a USB interface. They carry several advantages over other portable storage devices; if compared with storage devices like floppy disk, USB Drives are faster, and can store more data, and are considered more dependable than any other storage devices available in market today.

However, they too fail and data loss happens on these USB drives as well, the real problem is due to enormous production of these drives, where major cause for data loss or failure is poor manufacturing and lack of quality control issues.

Some of the common removable drives are: USB Drive, ZIP Drive, CD-DVD, Floppy Disks, USB Flash Drives (Pen Drive, Thumb Drive), Firewire drives.
